Denise Matheson

"Hailing from Idaho, my potato-loving family of seven has called Ligonier home since 2020. As an outdoor enthusiast, I appreciate the creek stomping, fort building, and travel opportunities that are woven into the curriculum here at Valley School.  In my free time, I prioritize road cycling, sauna sitting, and coffee sipping."

Growing up in a military family, relocations were an inevitable part of Denise’s life. She learned from an early age to embrace the life of a tourist.  Travel basketball teams and study abroad experiences propelled Denise into a life of adventure. 

 

After wrapping up her collegiate basketball career, she married her college sweetheart, Tyler, and moved to Andalucia, Spain, to pursue a career in Education.

 

Back on US soil, Denise embarked on a basketball coaching career at the College of Idaho. Three of her five children were born in the off season and learned to dunk a basketball before they could crawl. In 2017, Denise and Tyler welcomed the last two members of their team, identical twin girls, and motherhood took precedence over coaching.

 

Valley School welcomed the Matheson family in 2020. Denise feels at home in Ligonier, where she teaches cycling at the YMCA, coaches youth basketball, and works with the Advancement Team at Valley School.
