“I love our class trips because they enhance our experiential curriculum. When we read a historical fiction novel and then bake gingerbread using a recipe from the early 1800s, or visit the Compass Inn to learn how to punch tin and make dip candles, the children come to understand and appreciate history in a memorable way.”

As a young child, I watched Anne of Green Gables stroll through the woods reading poetry and I imagined that if I were to teach someday, that would be the very best way to do it. As a language arts teacher, I want every student in my classroom to be fascinated with the writing process and discover their author within. I enjoy using creative classroom settings (especially outside) and project-based writing instruction to challenge and develop my students’ writing skills.

I received my B.S. in Education from The University of Pittsburgh in 2005. After taking a hiatus from teaching to enjoy time with my three young children, I returned to my passion in 2015, first as a k-9 substitute teacher, and subsequently as part of Valley School’s full-time staff in 2021.
