Dr. Strecker's Debut Book Set for Release This Month
Patrick Jackson
Valley School is thrilled to celebrate a major milestone for our head of school, Dr. Jonathan Strecker, whose debut book Emergence: How Modern Convenience is Dumbing Down Our Children and What Parents and Schools Can Do About It is set for release on Tuesday, April 21. The book draws on Dr. Strecker's personal journey to articulate his philosophy that true growth means becoming your best self across five dimensions of intelligence: intellectual, social, emotional, ethical, and physical.
Dr. Strecker's vision of "emergence" is not just a concept in a book — it is the lived experience of every student at Valley School. From family-style dining and outdoor education to our emphasis on community, wellness, wisdom, and integrity, everything about Valley School is designed to nurture the whole child. As he recently shared with the Latrobe Bulletin, "it won’t let you rest on just being shy. It won’t let you rest on being intellectually lazy. It won’t let you rest on being ethically unsound.” — because at Valley School, we believe every student is capable of becoming something remarkable.
Emergence is available for preorder now on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and will be available locally at G Squared Gallery in Ligonier Borough. Let's join in celebrating this incredible achievement with him. Congratulations, Dr. Strecker!
In an environment that is safe, challenging, nurturing, and disciplined, Valley School provides a balanced and strong program of study for a diverse group of children. Our goal is to stimulate in each young person lifelong habits of moral behavior, seeking wisdom, and doing good works for others.
