Mark McNeil

“My favorite quote is “Be brave enough to fail at something new.” It helps to remind students to be risk-takers, and know that the most learning is done when you are uncomfortable.”
Grades 5-8 Math Teacher
Grade 8 Advisor
Basketball Coach
Mark McNeil grew up in north central Pennsylvania bordering his grandfather’s dairy farm. During his childhood he developed a strong work ethic, a love for the outdoors, and a passion for sports. After receiving his B.S. in elementary education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he moved to Latrobe and taught in Latrobe, Derry, and Ridgeview Academy. He also coached 9th-grade basketball and middle school and varsity football.

Mark joined Valley School in 1999, and earned his master’s degree in middle school mathematics shortly thereafter. He has worn many hats at Valley School, and currently teaches 5-8 grade math, serves as an 8th-grade advisor, and coaches the boys’ basketball team.

Mark and his wife, Bethany, have three children—Cole, Lexi, and Kyle—who attended Valley School and credit the environment, culture, and faculty and staff for being positive influences during their elementary and middle school years.
