Cindy Shaffer

Math Specialist

Cynthia “Cindy” Shaffer knew from an early age that she would one day be a teacher. Her grandmother was an elementary teacher, and her father was a middle school biology teacher.

After receiving her B.A. in Speech and Hearing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Cindy attended Seton Hill College to earn her elementary education certification. She has taught Kindergarten, second, third, fourth, and seventh grades. While teaching for Ligonier Valley School District, Cindy earned a master’s degree in reading from Duquesne University.  She continued her education at Penn State University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania and received technology and principal’s certifications. In addition to her teaching career, Cindy served as a technology coordinator for Ligonier Valley School District and a curriculum supervisor for the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit.

Cindy joined Valley School in 2020 as a learning specialist for grades K-5. She loves supporting Valley School students as they strive to embody the Valley Core Values. In her free time, Cindy enjoys traveling and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. Cindy currently serves on the boards of the Al Ludwig Memorial Fund (secretary), Ligonier Valley Education Foundation (vice-president), and Westmoreland Walks (treasurer).
