DOING GOOD WORKS
At Valley School, we are loyal to our mission: "In an environment that is safe, challenging, nurturing, and disciplined, Valley School provides a balanced and strong program of study for a diverse group of children. Our goal is to stimulate in each young person lifelong habits of moral behavior, seeking wisdom, and doing good works for others." Sometimes, living our mission comes in subtle forms--a friendly smile in a hallway, a good decision, or a quiet gesture of kindness. Other times, the work is more explicit...like on Day of Caring!
Recently, our Upper School students stashed their books in their cubbies and rolled up their sleeves to do some service work on and off campus. 5th graders spent the day raking gravel, spreading mulch, and blowing leaves here at school, while their 6th-grade peers weeded and landscaped for the Loyalhanna Watershed. Our 7th, 8th, and 9th grade whistled while they worked at the Waterford Volunteer Fire Company, where they cleaned, sanded tables, varnished outdoor furniture, and painted. We're so proud of how hard our students worked to lend a hand in our community, and are so happy to see them feel the satisfaction of helping out.
