Valley School Stories

On Friday, September 30, Valley School celebrated the life of alumnus Srinvasa Prasad Gutti '96 (affectionately known as “Vasu"), who passed away in May of 2004. In a ceremony commemorating Vasu's unparalleled passion for south Asian performing arts, Dr. Strecker announced the dedication of our auditorium stage—now renamed the Vasu Gutti Performing Arts Stage—and unveiled Vasu's portrait and plaque. After brief remarks, Valley School students and faculty—along with Vasu's family and several classmates—watched a video of Vasu dancing, as well as a series of live performances of Indian music and dance. One highlight was a flute composition written and performed by alumna Krishna Lakkimsetty '20.
Following the dedication and performances, our Valley School community enjoyed a delectable lunch catered by the Taj Mahal Restaurant. Students were thrilled to dine on authentic chicken tandoori, channa masala, samosas, and gulab jamun. Our Upper School students even learned how to make naan in a tandoor oven!

Thank you to the Rao family for sharing Vasu’s enduring legacy with our students of today and tomorrow.
